Florida’s 20th Congressional District race is growing increasingly competitive with new challengers entering the Democratic Primary against embattled U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick.
Miami music pioneer Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell and Rudy Moise, a physician, lawyer and retired U.S. Air Force Reserve colonel, just joined the contest alongside Democrats Elijah Manley and Dale Holness; Republicans Sendra Dorce and Joseph Rodenay; independent Kedner Maxime; and write-in Kevin McClellan.
Cherfilus-McCormick faces federal charges alleging she stole $5 million in disaster relief funds, which she denies.
The Aug. 18 Primary will likely decide the seat in the heavily Democratic Broward-Palm Beach district.
