Miami Gardens Sen. Shevrin Jones helped bring solace to families of murdered children with the unanimous passage of “Curtis’ Law.”
The bill is named for the son of Patricia Ward, whose activism after his death led to information transparency reforms in multiple states.
It requires police to provide a minor’s next of kin with key details, including contact information for the primary investigator, the case number, investigation status, a list of found personal effects and how to collect them.
Jones said he’s grateful his “colleagues in both chambers recognized the importance of getting families the information they need and deserve.”
