A lawsuit to stop Palm Beach Gardens from annexing the largest of five areas targeted for absorption won’t likely be heard before voters weigh in next month.
Early voting begins March 9. A hearing date for the suit isn’t set.
Residents of Hidden Key, a small neighborhood in the county’s unincorporated area, sued in January to block the election and annexation, contending it would hike taxes while decreasing services for 70 homeowners there.
They argued their zone is not compact or contiguous with the city, as state law requires for annexations. City Attorney R. Max Lohman says that assertion is false.
