Florida State Road A1A won’t be undergoing any changes in latitudes anytime soon, but it may get a new title to honor the beloved singer-songwriter, Jimmy Buffett.
Lawmakers are close to approving legislation (SB 94, HB 91) to rename the thoroughfare “Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway” from its tip in Ferdinand Beach to Mile Marker 0 in Key West.
Senate Democratic Leader Lauren Book is sponsoring the measure in the Legislature’s upper chamber, which is expected to hold a final vote soon. Reps. Chuck Clemons and Jim Mooney carried the bill in the House, which unanimously – and cheerfully – approved it this month.
