West Palm Beach Democratic Sen. Bobby Powell is resigning from the Senate to run for the Palm Beach Commission. He’s signaling for Gov. Ron DeSantis to call a Special Election to replace him.
Powell sent a resignation letter to DeSantis in order to open a campaign account for the County Commission’s District 7 seat. The resignation, effective Nov. 4, is irrevocable.
“It is my intent to prevent any gaps in coverage or representation,” he wrote.
Powell is attempting a seat swap with former Rep. Mack Bernard, the current District 7 Commissioner, who is running to succeed him in Senate District 24.
