Plantation lawyer Christopher Wigand is the newest judge on the 17th Judicial Circuit Court following an appointment by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Wigand will succeed Mariya Weekes, who left the bench for a litigation firm job after five years in the criminal felony, family and domestic violence divisions.
A law school graduate of Nova Southeastern University, Wigand has owned and operated The Wigand Law Firm since 2012. He previously was a partner at Williams Hilal Wigand Grande.
He told Law.com that Broward County Chief Judge Jack Tuter set a May 20 start date for him to be seated on the bench.
