The Miami Heat’s longest-tenured player, Udonis Haslem, received deserved honors when the team retired his No. 40 jersey.
“I know you all think I’m going to cry,” he said during a halftime ceremony Jan. 19. “Heat Nation, it’s been an absolute honor, man.”
The Miami native’s stats weren’t jaw-dropping. His career average: 7.5 points, 6.6 rebounds. But most agree Haslem – who played his entire 20-year career with the Heat, 16 as captain – was a catalyst for the team’s success.
Just five other Heat players – Chris Bosh, Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Mourning, Shaquille O’Neal and Dwyane Wade – have also had their numbers retired.
