Private parking facilities will have to abide by new consumer-protection rules through Miami-inspired legislation the Governor just signed.
The measure (HB 271), among other things, requires facility owners to prominently display rules and rates, sets standards for late fees and prohibits sharing customer information with outside parties.
It also establishes a 15-minute period for motorists to enter and exit a facility without being charged.
Republican Sen. Ileana Garcia and Reps. Vicki Lopez and Demi Busatta Cabrera of Miami-Dade sponsored the bill. Lopez said she drafted it to address problems at home but since heard “outcry from other parts of our state.”
