Billy Corben blasts Miami-Dade Dems for refusing to move Chair vote from Passover Shabbat

by The 100 Companies

Documentarian Billy Corben called out Miami-Dade Democratic Party leaders this week for setting an election for Chair during Passover and refusing to reschedule.

The election is on Friday night, which coincides with Shabbat Chol HaMoed Pesach, a Passover sabbath more Jews observe than regular sabbaths.

Corben, who dropped out of the Chair race Wednesday, asked acting Chair Laura Wagner to reschedule. Sen. Shevrin Jones, who’s running with Wagner’s endorsement, agreed the date should change.

Wagner refused. The state party supported her.

“What we’re doing,” Corben said, “is not helping to dispel the reputation that Democrats are unfriendly to Jewish people.”
