Municipal Elections in Miami-Dade County result in new Commissioner, runoff

by The 100 Companies

Two Miami-Dade municipalities held Special Elections on Tuesday – to only partly definitive results.

In Biscayne Park, 79% of voters chose firefighter Ryan Huntington to serve as a Village Commissioner for seven months. He’ll seek re-election in November.

In Miami Lakes, lawyer Bryan Morera will likely face former Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Town Manager Esther Colon in an April 30 runoff. The winner will serve the remaining term of ex-Vice Mayor Carlos Alvarez through November 2026.

Morera took 29.4% of the vote to secure his runoff spot. Colon outpaced social worker Hector Abad by fewer than 10 votes for second place. A recount is underway.
