Rosie Cordero-Stutz’s bid to be Miami-Dade’s first elected Sheriff since 1966 just netted a nod from the county’s immediate past Mayor, U.S. Rep. Carlos Giménez.
“(She) has a track record of upholding the highest ethical standards,” he said, “and can lead with a vision for a safer Miami-Dade on Day 1.”
Giménez’s endorsement is noteworthy considering that under Miami-Dade’s strong Mayor form of government, he was the county’s de facto Sheriff to whom appointed Police Directors answered.
Cordero-Stutz, a career-long Miami-Dade Police officer and current Assistant Director, is overseeing the transition to a Sheriff’s Office following a 2018 statewide referendum.
