Doral Vice Mayor leaves Democratic Party, joins GOP

by The 100 Companies

Doral Vice Mayor Maureen Porras is a Democrat no more.

She has jumped ship and joined the Republican Party. Porras is the third Florida Democrat to change parties since the election, after Reps. Susan Valdés of Tampa and Hillary Cassel of Hollywood.

She gave two main reasons for the switch: stronger support from Republicans, including Donald Trump’s intervention against a garbage incinerator’s reconstruction in the city, and “socialist ideas and beliefs from communist regimes” that have “seeped into” and divided the Democratic Party.

“I cannot continue,” she said, “to represent a party that does not represent me or my values.”
