Amid loud opposition and mostly negative global coverage, Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner withdrew a proposal to evict a cinema nonprofit from city property after it screened an Oscar-winning documentary about the West Bank.
Meiner, who is Jewish, decried the film, “No Other Land,” as a “one-sided propaganda attack on the Jewish people.” He pulled his proposal after learning five of six City Commissioners opposed it.
He proffered another measure urging the theater to screen films with a “fair and balanced viewpoint,” including a picture about Oct. 7 from Israel’s perspective.
The Commission deferred that item to a future meeting.
