Miami Gardens Councilwoman Shannon Campbell isn’t running for re-election unopposed anymore.

Educator-turned-nonprofit director Katrina Baskin, a lifelong city resident, filed to compete for a four-year term in Seat 1 on the City Council, which Campbell won in 2020.

The kickoff for Baskin’s campaign, her first run at public office, is on Jan. 25 at Arline’s Restaurant. She vows, if elected, to create programs for seniors, expand youth educational resources and reduce crime and gun violence.

“I am excited,” she said, “to create real change and real progress for the citizens of (my) community.”

Baskin runs the nonprofit We are Farmers, Inc.
