Lawyer Bryan Morera is the newest member of the Miami Lakes Town Council after comfortably winning a runoff race.
Morera defeated former Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Town Manager Esther Colon with 56.5% of the vote. He will serve out the remaining term of ex-Vice Mayor Carlos Alvarez, who resigned late last year, through November 2026.
Morera, a 32-year-old first-time candidate, vowed to lower taxes, address nearby blast mining and boost public safety, among other things.
“I’m incredibly proud of the whole team – my family, my friends and everyone who contributed, whether it was money, time (or) support,” Morera said. “Now the real work begins.”
