South Florida’s Winner and Loser of the Week

Winner: Walter Fajet

Fajet will serve as the Mayor of Miami Springs for the next two years after winning a Tuesday contest. He defeated former City Council member Bob Best, securing about two-thirds of the vote.

Joseph Dion and Fabian Perez-Crespo also won races to join the City Council.

Loser: Martin County teachers

Veteran teachers have a decision to make after the Martin County School Board voted to limit benefits for teachers who retire after this summer.

All benefits will continue to be available for those who retire by June 30. But anyone waiting after that may be out of luck.
