Congressional Democrats stumbled last week when Senate Republicans blocked the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act, but the fight isn’t over, U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, state Sen. Tina Polsky and others said.
At a recent press conference, they highlighted bills aimed at protecting and expanding voting access in Florida.
Among them: SB 1586, which would ease vote-by-mail reregistration and mandate Special Elections to occur within 180 days of a vacancy; SB 368, which would allow “motor voter” registration; and HB 1353, which would allow same-day voter registration.
“We see voting rights threatened today like never before,” Frankel said.
