Most expensive county-level race propels Michelle Oyola McGovern to General Election

by carlislewillard

Michelle Oyola McGovern won her first election – the Democratic nomination for a seat on the Palm Beach County Commission. She defeated seasoned politician, Rep. Matt Willhite, denying his return to local politics.

The pitched battle, that resulted in McGovern winning 57% of the vote, Willhite, 33%, is believed to have triggered the most expensive county-level race in Palm Beach history. The latest records show the two campaigns collectively spent $1.15 million competing to represent Palm Beach County’s agricultural swath.

Another Democrat, Sylvia Sharps, received 11% of the votes.

In November’s election McGovern will face Republican Sara Baxter, real estate agent.
