Embattled Broward County Schools Superintendent Vickie Cartwright left her job just shy of the one-year anniversary when she became the leader of the country’s sixth-largest school district.
In Cartwright’s stead, temporarily, the School Board is putting Earlean Smiley, who worked in the district for 36 years, until she left in 2010, the Sun Sentinel reported.
Smiley started as a Broward County school teacher in 1974, working her way up to become deputy Superintendent. She left in 2010 to become Superintendent of a small school district in South Carolina for three years. She’s been a consultant for the last 10 years.
