Miami-Dade County unveils historic $11.7B budget

More property tax revenue is contributing to Miami-Dade’s biggest budget ever – a $11.7 billion proposal 12% larger than last year.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava called the plan, unveiled Monday, “a smart, compassionate and future-ready budget.” It includes a 1% property tax cut and “gas tax holiday,” the result of county administrators forgetting to renew a local gas tax.

Homeowners’ taxes would still rise because Florida allows appraised values to increase 3% this year.

The budget includes a $300 million increase in public safety spending, 3% raises for county workers and $200 million for three big transit projects, among other earmarks.
