Josh Dieguez is Miami Lakes’ new Mayor.
A sitting Town Commissioner, Dieguez beat Vice Mayor Tony Fernandez with 56% of the vote in a runoff to succeed ex-Mayor Manny Cid.
Dieguez ran on a record of working to lower Miami Lakes’ taxes, increase the town’s reserve fund and implement flood-mitigation projects.
He vowed, if elected Mayor, to improve public safety and local parks and curb nearby limestone blast mining residents complain damages their homes.
Much of that would be effectuated by bully pulpit. Miami Lakes’ Mayor position comes with little power, with most executive work handled by the Town Manager.
