BSO contract for 911 emergency dispatch operation expires

by carlislewillard

Broward County is poised to take over the troubled 911 emergency dispatch system as a contract for the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to run the operation has expired.

Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said he wouldn’t sign a new contract with the county to replace the one that expired Dec. 31 until technological upgrades are made as recommended by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission. County leaders said his deadline was impossible, the Sun Sentinel reported.

Emergency communication failures were said to be a factor in the miscommunications that arose during the MSD shooting that delayed emergency response.
