Broward County’s interim Schools Superintendent Earlean Smiley is handing out paycheck boosts before her replacement is scheduled to be named Thursday, the Sun Sentinel reports.
The School Board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on her plan.
Among her recommendations:
• Give regional schools Superintendent Alan Strauss a $40,000 annual boost in pay.
• Increase by $25,000 county schools Chief of Staff Valerie Wanza ’s salary. She was an applicant to become Superintendent who the School Board rejected.
The plan has earned the ire of some School Board members, the paper reported.
“It’s quite audacious for any outgoing leader,” Board member Allen Zeman said.
