‘Lady Vote’ joins South Florida’s resistance to anti-drag law

Other parts of the state might have canceled or limited their June Pride events fearing a new law that criminalizes exposing children to “adult live performance” – thought to be targeting drag shows – but the month set aside to commemorate the emergence of LGBTQ rights is going strong in South Florida.

Wilton Manors City Commissioner Chris Caputo will go as “Lady Vote” at his city’s celebration to test the new law’s prohibition of “lewd conduct.”

“Personally, I don’t believe drag performances at our stonewall cultural event are illegal,” Caputo wrote on Facebook. “I believe they are of artistic and political value …”
