Broward State Attorney plans to clear records of people charged for buying police-made crack

Broward State Attorney Harold Pryor intends to vacate potentially thousands of convictions of people who bought crack cocaine manufactured by the county Sheriff’s Office for sting operations between 1988 and 1990.

In 1993, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that people who were arrested for buying the cop-made crack from undercover deputies couldn’t be charged.

But as the AP reported, prosecutors in Pryor’s office discovered recently that many people still had charges or convictions on their records linked to the stings.

He’s now working to expunge their records.

“It’s never too late to do the right thing,” Pryor said in a statement.
