Seeing a severe lack of investment in schools and educators, the Broward Teachers Union (BTU) set out to hold the Superintendent and the School Board accountable.
BTU members flooded street corners and held rallies at school board meetings to advocate for teachers and a greater investment in Broward kids. Their message to the school board? We are watching.
During the 2020 election, they kept that promise. Two of the Broward School Board candidates the BTU pushed for won election. Sarah Leonardi in seat 3 ousted the incumbent during the August 2020 primary, and Debra Hixon won seat 9 on Nov. 3.
