County Commission Races with Healthcare Support Win Big

Four county commission seats were up in the November 2020 election in Miami-Dade. County Commission Districts 3, 5, 7 and 9 will now be represented by Keon Hardemon, Eileen Higgins, Raquel Regalado and Kionne McGhee, respectively. Two seats, Districts 11 and 13, were decided in the primary — with Joe Martinez and Rene Garcia winning.
One group stood out as a major player in these races: SEIU 1991 — the nurses and doctors at Jackson Hospital. Labeling candidates as “healthcare heroes,” SEIU 1991 showed the power of support from the healthcare community, as every candidate they endorsed won by much bigger margins.
