Realtor Juan Carlos “J.C.” Fernandez and lawyer Steven Herzberg are joining the Miami Lakes City Council after no one filed to run against them.
Fernandez succeeds Marilyn Ruano in Seat 3. Herzberg takes Seat 5, which Luis Collazo has held since 2016.
Both won four-year terms.
Fernandez said he plans to address right-of-way issues and beautify Miami Lakes. Herzberg wants to make government more transparent, effective and fiscally conservative while addressing nearby blast mining that damages homes.
Town voters will elect a new Mayor and Seat 1 Council member Nov. 5. Current Mayor Manny Cid is running for Mayor of Miami-Dade County.
