Garbage fight goes to court

by Margaret Willard

After years of wrangling, South Florida’s own Horatio Alger, “Alligator” Ron Bergeron, has finally pulled corporate giant Waste Management into court in a clash that might determine what company collects garbage in Broward County.

Bergeron is suing the hauler for $81 million, saying that his former business partners went behind his back and sold the company to Waste Management, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Bergeron is the CEO of the Bergeron Family of Cos. — a group of businesses that includes disaster recovery services, highway construction, quarries, rock pits, agriculture, property development and solid waste, all while billing themselves as environmentally sensitive.
