Some 887,000 cubic yards of sand has arrived to replenish the southern segment of Broward County’s shore from Dania Beach to Hallandale Beach.
The project will continue through April 2023 with a break for turtle nesting season. The replenishment effort started at the Dr. Von Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park and will extend south to the Miami-Dade County border.
The project involves enough sand to fill four football stadiums 10 feet high.
“This will help build a protective barrier against extreme weather and sea level rise while also restoring the beauty of our beaches,” Broward County Commissioner Beam Furr said.
