Winner: FIU. Florida International University has risen to No. 72 in U.S. News & World Report’s list of top public universities. That cements the fastest rise of any public university in the U.S. over the last decade. FIU leapt 17 spots last year before rising another six spots this year.
Loser: Spiny lobster industry. Housing and labor shortages remain at the forefront of American life, and are impacting South Florida’s spiny lobster industry as well. The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council spotlighted the challenges in its last meeting, which could prompt harvesters in the Keys to relocate further north.
