Memorial Day weekend comes with Florida travel advisories

Ahead of Memorial Day, three organizations have issued travel advisories warning vacationers that recently approved legislation dealing with immigration, diversity and LBGTQ issues may affect the reception they get in Florida.

Miami-area Democratic Sen. Shevrin Jones decried what’s led to the NAACP advisory about the state’s climate. He said he agrees with the advisory that administration officials say is based on inaccuracies.

“Everyone ought to be able to visit and exist in our state, but that is no longer the case thanks to the attacks against Black and Brown communities from the Governor and the Legislature he controls,” Jones said.
