Knight Foundation gives $8M for climate literacy

by The 100 Companies

The Miami-based Knight Foundation is making a big investment in spreading awareness of climate change risks.

The nonprofit confirmed it’s donating $5 million to Miami Waterkeeper and $3 million to the Everglades Foundation through 2030.

Knight Senior Director Raul Moas told the Miami Herald the infusion should foster “more active discussing and defining (of) climate solutions that will build a resilient future.”

Miami Waterkeeper will use the funds to add staff and upgrade its water-quality-monitoring tools, Executive Director Rachel Silverstein said.

The Everglades Foundation will add an executive position focused on innovating tech that’ll improve residents’ understanding of the ecosystem’s importance.
