Miami’s preeminent pediatric institution is taking steps to help parents shield kids from internet dangers.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, the Digital Health Institute for Transformation and other partners formed the Digital Safety Alliance (DSA) and Safe+Sound initiative.

A think tank, the DSA aims to spread awareness and advocate for digital best practices.

Safe+Sound will offer information resources on digital technology’s impacts amid mounting data linking web access to mental health maladies.

“Parents are the first line of defense,” Nicklaus Children’s Health System CEO Matthew Love said. “We want them to be informed before deciding when to give their kids a smartphone.”
