While added protections failed to pass this Session, lawmakers didn’t snub the famed “River of Grass.”

The state’s 2024-25 budget includes more than $740 million for Everglades restoration, the preponderance of which will go to the South Florida Water Management District.

In a statement, Anna Upton, CEO of the nonprofit Everglades Trust, commended Gov. Ron DeSantis, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo and House Speaker Paul Renner for their “continuous support.”

“These critical investments mean that we can keep moving the needle forward on Everglades restoration,” she said, “which is vital to Florida’s water-based tourism economy and the environment that supports it.”
