Annual gargantuan Pride Festival brings tens of thousands amid new restrictive law

This year’s Stonewall Pride Parade and Festival in Wilton Manors had plenty of signs of protest, politicians and yes, pride in being true to oneself, but drag queens were notably scarcer than usual.

Mindful of a new state law that prohibits children at adult live performances – seen as a law targeting drag performance – the city put out a list of rules against profanity, nudity and sexualized content, specifically telling participants to cover breasts and lower areas, leave sex toys at home and no touching yourself or others in a sexualized way.

Signs show some were chafing at the new crackdown.
