As rents soar, Miami-Dade Mayor declares state of emergency

by carlislewillard

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has declared a state of emergency over housing affordability and that means that there’s $13.4 million in federal assistance to help tenants struggling to pay rent.

Residents with an income below 80% the county’s annual income — less than $50,650 for an individual and couples making less than $57,650 — are eligible, according to the Miami Herald. That’s the program’s first step.

The county will pay help people who are behind on their monthly rent by up to a year and subsidize rent increases of 1% to 20%.

More information on how to apply is here.
