COVID-19 traditions that persist

by carlislewillard

Every morning, now around 7 a.m., a crowd of about 600 watch the sun rising over Deerfield Beach – but don’t look for them on the live view broadcast every morning on the city’s Facebook page.

The online broadcast started soon after the 2020 COVID-19 shutdown that closed the state’s beaches to the public. Its popularity is keeping the tradition alive, particularly emails from people saying it was helping them.

“We want to continue to remind anyone struggling that every new day brings with it a glimmer of hope,” city spokeswoman Rebecca Medina Stewart  said.
