Clerk of Courts Harvey Ruvin, the longest-serving elected official in Miami-Dade County, died Saturday at 85.

Known for deftness and dedication in his work and devotion to environmental sustainability, Ruvin left an indelible mark.

He served as Mayor of North Bay Village, then a County Commissioner for 20 years before his election as Clerk, a job he kept three decades.

“A light has been extinguished in our community and beyond,” Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said in a statement.

On Monday, Chief Judge Nushin Sayfie appointed Luis Montaldo, chief general counsel for the Clerk’s office and Ruvin’s preferred successor, as interim Clerk.
