Southwest 107th Avenue in Miami was designated “Dr. Walter Thomas Richardson Drive” in honor of the community leader who has served as the senior chaplain for the Miami-Dade Police Department for more than 30 years.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee Sunday hosted a street naming ceremony at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church where Richardson led for 26 years and now serves as pastor emeritus.
Richardson, born in Miami in 1948, attended North Dade Junior Senior High School, the Miami Herald reports. He earned a doctorate from Trinity Theological Seminary after earning his bachelor’s and master’s from St. Thomas University.
