Long overdue repairs at Miami International Airport, one of Miami-Dade’s two major economic generators, are inconveniencing travelers.
The hub’s Skytrain connecting passengers to faraway terminals has been shut down since September due to crumbling concrete, forcing passengers to walk up to a mile to their gate.
Dozens of elevators are also out of service.
Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade’s chief executive since November 2020, blamed the previous administration’s neglect for the problems.
She said the county will undertake $1.7 billion in deferred airport maintenance projects, plus $7 billion capital projects, and will reopen two-thirds of the Skytrain line in March.
