Judge denies Joe Carollo new trial after $63.5M verdict

Joe Carollo’s losing streak continued this week, when a federal judge rejected the Miami Commissioner’s motions for a mistrial and to reduce a $63.5 million judgment against him.

Carollo called it a small victory, noting the previously unresolved motions prevented him from appealing.

“Today is a great day for me,” he said.

U.S. Marshals are seizing Carollo’s property to cover damages a jury awarded two businessmen he targeted with city resources in retaliation for their support of his political opponent.

Judge Rodney Smith called his actions “reprehensible.”

Carollo has filed additional motions to stop the auction of his home.
