Razor-thin victory will be tested in next race to represent CD 20

Former Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness is looking for a rematch in the congressional seat that eluded him by just five votes last November that U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick won.

The two Democrats and nine others split 49,082 voters in a Special Primary as they vied to replace deceased U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings for the right to represent Florida’s 20th Congressional District. Cherfilus-McCormick easily crushed her competitors in the Democrat-leaning district straddling Broward and Palm Beach counties.

But the midterm Primary Election will likely see more voters. Hastings’ last Primary Election in 2020 drew more than 90,000 voters.
