New passenger rail cars and locomotives are on their way to Tri-Rail, the commuter service serving Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties, via a $71.7 million federal grant, the Sun Sentinel reports.
The money represents the biggest chunk of a $179.2 million plan to refurbish 32% of the 30 coaches, 17 locomotives and 18 cab cars that run along 18 stops that stretch from Mangonia Park, north of West Palm Beach to Miami International Airport.
The federal money is coming from a pool of $703 million the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law allocated to upgrade rail lines and subways across the country.
