Waves of free publicity didn’t carry candidates to Boynton Beach’s mayoral seat

by Margaret Willard

Getting your name in headlines does not always mean momentum to election.

Witness Boynton Beach. Two mayoral candidates got free publicity for controversies. But when the vote was tallied, the pair were last in the four-way race.

Bernard Wright came in last place after slamming another candidate’s alleged aim to make Boynton a “gay city.” And anti-masker Cindy Falco-Di Corrado got in the news praying on a courtroom floor.

Meanwhile, Boynton Beach City Commissioner Ty Penserga won 57% of the vote to become the sixth LGBTQ Mayor in Palm Beach County, according to the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council.
