Outfielder Roman Anthony of the state 7A champion Stoneman Douglas High baseball team was named the 2022 Gatorade Florida Baseball Player of the Year.
Anthony is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Player of the Year.
He hit .520 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI. He scored 36 runs, swiped 21 bases, and did not commit an error.
The award is based on athletic and academic excellence plus exemplary character on and off the field.
Anthony signed a baseball scholarship at the University of Mississippi and could be a first-round choice in the upcoming Major League Baseball Draft.
