Fort Lauderdale Rep. Rosalind Osgood is sponsoring legislation to create a “Restorative Justice Program,” enabling crime victims and their families to meet with offenders to seek reparations, address trauma and reduce further harm.
HB 855 would establish the voluntary program, which could be part of deferred prosecution or pretrial interventions.
The measure and its Senate companion by Yvonne Hinson would add to existing inmate training programs focused on self-discipline and work ethic lessons about reparations and accountability.
Osgood called it “a chance to help our constituents redefine themselves through self-worth and reparative training, which eventually leads to positive personal development.”
