Know before you go: County sets up page for bathers to check beaches

In anticipation of the much-hyped seaweed onslaught from a reported 5,000 miles of seaweed, Broward County has assembled a page with links to six live city beach webcams so bathers can judge how much seaweed-dodging a dip will entail.

Beach views from Hollywood to Deerfield Beach are linked. Visitors will be able to see what it looks like on Dania Beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and Pompano Beach.

So far, the Great Atlantic Sargassum Belt that once loomed, threatening to send an overwhelming scent of sulphur ashore, has not materialized here. Researchers are crediting unusually high winds for the reprieve.
