It’s not quite as popular as the city’s beach cam, or its underwater fish cam, but the city of Deerfield Beach is hoping its bee cam will become a learning tool that helps pollinate new understanding about this crucial player in the food chain.

The livestream presents a real-time look at how bees have a role in one-third of the food humans consume.

The camera started in May, and Hillary Silverstone, the city’s sustainability coordinator, is going to be doing some outreach to schools this year so that students can see nature in action without having to risk its sting.
