Miami-Dade and Broward residents complaining about damage nearby blast mining is doing to their properties will have to wait longer for relief.

Lawmakers this Session again snubbed legislation by Miramar Rep. Tom Fabricio to reduce the level of explosions six limestone companies use to mine construction aggregate in northwest Miami-Dade.

In an encouraging move, however, House members heard from experts during a workshop on the issue this month. Fabricio hopes it will help his cause gain traction.

“Blasting limits in the state are generally fine,” he said. “Where the homes are shaking every day and causing damage … it’s a problem.”
